EFFLORESCENCE
Sometimes, after installing concrete pavers or tiles, you may notice a thin white, powdery layer on the surface. This is called efflorescence. It is a natural and temporary process that occurs in many concrete products. Surface Whitening: In the initial stages of their lifespan, concrete products might show a slight reduction in color intensity and develop a white stain on the surface. This is a temporary occurrence and usually clears over time. It does not affect the performance or durability of the product in any way, and ASTTRA cannot be held accountable for its occurrence.
Why does it happen?
All concrete contains small amounts of lime.
When water from rain, dew, sprinklers, or ground moisture seeps in, it dissolves this lime.
As the water evaporates, the lime rises to the surface and reacts with the air, leaving behind a white haze.
This is more noticeable on darker-colored pavers and may look like the color is fading — but it is not.
Will it go away?
Yes, efflorescence is temporary.
Natural rain usually washes it away within 1–2 years.
If you prefer quicker results, it can be removed with cleaners made specifically for efflorescence.
Can it be prevented?
Not completely. Efflorescence is a natural by-product of concrete.
Manufacturers take steps during production to minimize it, but it cannot be avoided entirely.
The important thing to know: efflorescence does not affect the strength or durability of the product — it only changes appearance temporarily.
In short: Efflorescence (or surface whitening) is normal, harmless, and temporary.
With time (or cleaning), your pavers will regain their natural color.
Maintenance
To preserve their appearance, it is advisable to clean the paving materials 2-3 times a year. Drive ways, especially those paved with light-coloured products, demand more maintenance due to potential tire marks and oil leakage that can detract from their appearance. It is recommended to clean the musing normal water and as of the brush; the use of high-pressure jet pumps is not advised. Avoid completely using power washing.
ORDERING
To prevent short ages and material wastage, please thoroughly review the order quantity, as we will not be held responsible for excess materials or any delays in delivering the insufficient quantity. To minimize confusion in the ordering process, it is advisable to order paving tiles as a complete batch and draw from multiple packs simultaneously to ensure uniformity in colour. We recommend selecting colours based on the actual materials rather- than relying on colour photographs.
WEATHERING
All concrete products will weather and undergo changes, particularly over time when exposed to natural elements.
SIZES
ASTTRA paving is manufactured to emulate the authenticity of natural tiles and pavers, hence they may exhibit variations in thickness. All sizes are considered nominal. Bulging may occur in larger individual pavers as a natural outcome of shrinkage. This occurrence does not impact the durability of the product.
COLOR VARIATION
Owing to variations in curing processes, slight colour and shade differences may arise in individual coloured concrete products. Site conditions, seasonal manufacturing, or inherent variations in the aggregates utilized can also contribute to these differences. Generally, these variations are considered to enhance the natural stone effect, and the colours will naturally mature over time.
PRODUCT SATISFACTORY CONDITION
It a product is delivered in an unsatisfactory condition, excluding any naturally occurring defects as described, the defect must be reported before laying. It is at this juncture that the suppler should be informed of the fault, providing time for the replacement of the rejected product. If the complaint is raised after the product has been laid, no responsibility will be assumed for any costs associated with relaying or removal.
